How to disable Text Message previews on iPhone lock screen I’ve had a couple of people ask recently how to change the iPhone setting so that you only see that you have a new text message,and not the previews of the message itself. So below is the instructions as well as he visual guide:

Settings -> notifications -> messages-> turn off Preview

If you’ve ever decided to live on another continent far away, after a while you’ll start seeing more differences between your new (or temporary home) and your home country and might feel that you are indeed living on the other side of the planet..

Well, if you ever wondered where you will end up if you drilled straight through to the other side of the world, there is now a tool for that…

Simply scroll the top map to where you currently are are see the other side of the world… Very interesting

This Google map also works on the iPad which is great.

The virtual machine sharing in VMWare Workstation 8

May 5, 2012 Leave a comment
I’ve been using the Mac version of VMware called Fusion, but just realised now that the PC version of VMware Workstation 8 can allow you to create a virtual machine of a server, and allow people to run it remotely. (without needing RDP)

I’ll investigate it a bit more but have a look at the details below:

Sent to you via Google Reader

The virtual machine sharing service is not available in VMWare Workstation 8

I wanted to share a VM, but this error message appeared when doing so:

vmware workstation 8 - the virtual machine sharing service is not available

The virtual machine sharing service is not available.

Solution

Changing the TCP Port that VMWare Workstation uses for the Shared VMs feature did the trick!

First startup VMWare Workstartion as an admin, otherwise you don’t have sufficient permissions;

VMWare Workstation 8 - shared VMs

Started as administrator:

VMWare Workstation 8 shared VMs - runas admin

Stop the service first, by hitting the “Disable Sharing” button. Then change the port number, and start the the sharing service again. I changed it to 242;

VMware Workstation 8 shared VMs - port changed

Before sharing a VM, I changed the location where all shared VMs are located. Because I wanted VMs on a second SSD.

change sharedVMs location

Share a VM by moving  a machine into the Shared VMs container in the Library;

share a VM

The Share VM Wizard starts. Transfer the VM to the “Shared Virtual Machines” directory (the one I changed a minute ago);

YouTube’s incredible Growth

What is most interesting is the biggest growth of 30% has been over the last 18 months leading up to 2012

The money is where the audience is…

YouTube still lags behind normal TV, however visitors to YouTube still spend an average of 15 minutes a day on the site compared to 4 hours of TV viewing (American audiences), but from a Marketing perspective here is a HUGE difference: YouTube viewers CHOOSE exactly what they want to watch, compared to TV viewers who often just “watch what’s on the box”

Google knew that This targeted viewing audience combined with YouTube Googles impressive skills with targeted advertising would b a great success, and that is why Google bought YouTube for £1 Billion With. Road and usage increasing dramatically more and more money earning generations (20+ to 55+ years old) are also getting on YouTube. For 2012 you can no longer ignore YouTube as communication method for your company or affiliate Marketing
I’ll be posting some advice on using YouTube for content creation, online marketing and communicating with your audience in future posts, as well as review some software and services to allow you to get a good distribution of the videos you decide to make available online. Advice for right now: Just go and register a Youtube account now, if you have a Gmail account you’re already 90% there. Look out for my YouTube Marketing Tips soon to come. Regard

Sometimes Automating your workload is easier than you think.

January 3, 2012 Leave a comment
What I have illustrated here is a quick fix to automate a repetitive task. In this case the filtered emails on a Linux system had to be tagged and there were over 2000+ of them. This particular problem was an anomaly which I knew has a unlikelihood of ever happening again, so create a solution to a problem which might never exist again is a huge waste of time. Sure I could have written a script, or did something funky with automation software, but sometimes the quickest and simplest solutions are the best. I present to you: iPencil, Eye-glasses cover, iPhone and Coke bottle solution.

This outsourcing allowed me to sit back, take out the iPad and watch the top trending YouTube videos in a category related to one of my projects

What did I learn here:

Sometimes instead of spending so much time trying to create a technological solution, bypassing the problem is much nicer, and don’t create fixes for problems hat might never exist. Until Next time. Regard

Twilight in November at the Southbank in London

November 20, 2011 Leave a comment
Lots of stalls selling German delicatessen and Mulled Wine with Brazilian music and a lot less people than in the summer. It also helps that this November is apparently the hottest in recorded history. (no complaints from me about that either)

Photo

The real reason for being here today however is the World Press Photo 2011 exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall

So far quite a number of interesting photos.

Lots of sunflower seeds at the Tate Modern

Strangely reminded me of eating these seeds when I was a kid and visiting a friend who had an African Grey Parrot. It looks like concrete, but edible
