Since 2007 when YouTube started out with 6 hours of Video per minute being uploaded, Its popularity has increased to be above 60hours of video uploaded every single minute. What is most interesting is the biggest growth of 30% has been over the last 18 months leading up to 2012

The money is where the audience is…

YouTube still lags behind normal TV, however visitors to YouTube still spend an average of 15 minutes a day on the site compared to 4 hours of TV viewing (American audiences), but from a Marketing perspective here is a HUGE difference: YouTube viewers CHOOSE exactly what they want to watch, compared to TV viewers who often just “watch what’s on the box”

Google knew that This targeted viewing audience combined with YouTube Googles impressive skills with targeted advertising would b a great success, and that is why Google bought YouTube for £1 Billion With. Road and usage increasing dramatically more and more money earning generations (20+ to 55+ years old) are also getting on YouTube. For 2012 you can no longer ignore YouTube as communication method for your company or affiliate Marketing

Sometimes Automating your workload is easier than you think.

What I have illustrated here is a quick fix to automate a repetitive task. In this case the filtered emails on a Linux system had to be tagged and there were over 2000+ of them. This particular problem was an anomaly which I knew has a unlikelihood of ever happening again, so create a solution to a problem which might never exist again is a huge waste of time. Sure I could have written a script, or did something funky with automation software, but sometimes the quickest and simplest solutions are the best. I present to you: iPencil, Eye-glasses cover, iPhone and Coke bottle solution.

This outsourcing allowed me to sit back, take out the iPad and watch the top trending YouTube videos in a category related to one of my projects

What did I learn here:

Sometimes instead of spending so much time trying to create a technological solution, bypassing the problem is much nicer, and don’t create fixes for problems hat might never exist. Until Next time. Regard

UK Government to spend £650 to improve Cyber Security

I have seen this coming for a long time, that the police would need to sharpen it’s skills on the digital protection front.

This article in the Evening Standard (I believe) of the 25th of November 2011 explains that the police is now outsourcing it’s cyber crime devision to cyber specials who can work with the Police to target Cybercrime.

This is interesting to read that they are also committing to £650 million to improve cyber security and get more people trained up as security experts. I’m already aware of Universities like Middlesex University in NW London, that have been providing training to Police as well as post graduates on Forensic Computing so I can only see that Forensic Computing and “Ethical Hacking” courses will be in higher demand in 2012.

If you are interested in IT Security there is a good website called http://www.ironGEEK.com which gave me many hours of fun watching and learning many exploits for fun obviously. Interestingly enough he has now also started teaching IT Security and Universities across the United States.

Gadget allows Mute boy to speak for the first time

I saw this touching story in the Metro the other day:

“Boy of 11, speaks first words to Family thanks to gadget”

Yes, using a similar system that that used by Steven Hawkins which costs around £6000 and is called Vantage light, the severely disabled boy called Yemil is now able to communicate with his parents using the gadget.

The best part of the story however is this:

His first words that he created on the device to his parents were:

“I love you”

Visit to Yoyo Tech in London for Custom Gaming PC’s

Since I mostly use Macs, I was intrigued when a friend took me to a gaming PC paradise in London called YoYoTech.

They are Specialist is building custom gaming PC ‘s and can be found at 30 Windmill Street – London – W1T 2JL

What was really remarkable was how large these computers were and sometimes quite noise if they had large fans but of course you have the option of choosing water cooling which will run silent (but still take up all the space under my desk).

Other massive computers which looked like Aliens were also on display and I have to admit, if I didn’t convert to the Mac some 7 years ago, I probably would have loved to get one of these machines (If they ran a different Opperating System)

So if you’re inclined to use Windows PC’s and need a super computer for your gaming you can definitely enjoy the visit to www.yoyotech.co.uk

I almost forgot, they also were using a nice BIG QR code on their door which is nice.

Twilight in November at the Southbank in London

Lots of stalls selling German delicatessen and Mulled Wine with Brazilian music and a lot less people than in the summer. It also helps that this November is apparently the hottest in recorded history. (no complaints from me about that either)

The real reason for being here today however is the World Press Photo 2011 exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall

DuckDuckGo/blekko search partnership – Gabriel Weinberg’s Blog

One of the exciting developments on the internet at the moment is search engines trying to improve the results and reduce the amount of spam.

The two new Search Engines Blekko and DuckDuckGo have decided to team up and seems to be providing very interesting and authoritive results

If this development continues, it will even be more important for SEO’s and Marketers to learn how to become authoritative in their markets.

I’m happy to announce DuckDuckGo (the search engine I run) is partnering with blekko (another search engine startup). I’m sure the partnership will evolve over time, but right now we’re using some of their auto-firing slashtags and they’re using some of our Zero-click Info.

On our end, we’re using their technology to improve results in really spammy categories like health. So now if you search for cure for headaches the top links will be from more trustworthy sources. We’re also using their APIs to offer sort by date functionality, which has been an oft-requested feature since launch
